Founded in 2015, the Hillingdon Literary Festival was organised by the Brunel Centre for Contemporary Writing with a mission to celebrate the contemporary literary environment, of both successful and emerging talent. We seek to promote the literary aspirations of our local community, and to champion the various diverse voices of the London Borough of Hillingdon.
We are committed to ensuring that all our contributing artists are properly supported, in line with the Society of Authors recommended fee. We are also equally committed to widening access to the arts and offering free events, of high calibre, to our community. So as to achieve this, we have been enormously fortunate to receive support from Brunel University London, Arts Council England, Heathrow, the London Borough of Hillingdon Council and their Culture Bite festival, as well as Waterstones.
In addition to this support, the strength of the Creative Writing and English departments at Brunel University London gave us an enormous platform from which to build our inaugural festival. Their support enabled us to invite the following to feature in HLF15 (in order of appearance):
Will Self, Benjamin Zephaniah, Joelle Taylor, Rachel Hore, Victor Gregg, Rick Stroud, Vesna Goldsworthy, Laura Barnett, John Lahr, Fergus Byrne, Lewis Dartnell, Deborah Moggach, Kate Mosse, Nicola Streeten, Andy Conway, Natasha Pulley, Liesel Schwarz, Amanda White, Jane Lawes, Max Kinnings, Frazer Lee, Matt Thorne, Alysoun Owen, Rachael Ball, Xiaolu Guo, Julian Petley, Geoffrey Robertson QC, John Sutherland, Julie Wilkinson, Naomi Wood, Nick Makoha.
We’re delighted to now be announcing our programme of events for HLF16.
